Reasons to drive a 2022 Nissan Leaf electric car in 2022

Over 10 years ago, the Nissan Leaf was the first electric car to ever hit the market. While many manufacturers have followed in its footsteps since then, the Leaf has remained a favourite with many consumers, offering great value for money.

An eco-friendly vehicle first and foremost

The Japanese automaker's goal when creating the electric Nissan Leaf was to make the world a greener place, and that is still reflected in everything that the Leaf has to offer. The all-electric vehicle does not emit a single particle of pollution: gasoline is just not part of its diet.

All in all, the Leaf has already saved more than 2.5 billion kg of CO2 since its launch! And since the electric car is perfectly silent, we should also talk about the reduction of noise pollution! The Leaf lets you enjoy your music the way you want to.

Named the 2020 Green Car of the Year

For the second consecutive time, the Leaf has been named the 2020 Green Car of the Year by the AJAC (Automobile Journalists Association of Canada). This award is presented after extensive testing and a thorough evaluation of objective criteria to determine which car offers the best overall characteristics.

This just goes to show that after more than 10 years, the Leaf continues to impress with the all-around quality of its design. This is one car that won't let the competition get the upper hand.

The Performance of its Engines

Available in four different versions, the Nissan Leaf also offers you a choice of two electric powertrains. The base version, the SV, is equipped with a 110 kW permanent magnet electric motor. This powertrain can crank out 147 horsepower and generates 236 lb-ft of instant torque.

The higher three trims, dubbed Leaf Plus, are powered by a 160 kW motor, which is equivalent to 214 horsepower. It also delivers 251 lb-ft of instant torque. Whether you are looking for a more affordable electric Nissan Leaf that is perfect for the city, or a car with a little more speed, the Nissan has got you covered!

On top of instant torque, the Nissan Electric also boasts a low centre of gravity thanks to the battery's position. This stance makes it very fun to drive and lets you feel more closely connected to the road.

Total Autonomy

With the electric Nissan Leaf, range is never an issue. In fact, this electric car can travel between 240 and 363 km on a single charge! You can recharge the battery in a regular Level 1 outlet in 8 to 11.5 hours, but with the 240V fast charging station you can charge 80% of its capacity in as little as 40 to 45 minutes.

There are many technologies that maximize the range of your Leaf. One of them is the Eco Mode, which allows you to extend the life of the battery. Another one is Regenerative Braking, which recovers energy when you brake and sends it straight to the battery.

Two Batteries to Choose From

Depending on your needs, Nissan is offering you two options for batteries. The first is a 40 kWh battery, which is equipped on the SV version. It delivers a range of 240 km, which is more than plenty for your daily commute.

On the other trims you will find a 62 kWh battery, which provides more power and better range: with this battery, the electric car can travel up to 363 km on a single charge. That's enough for a round trip from Montreal to Mont-Tremblant, and even more! When it comes to weekend getaways, you have nothing to worry about with the Nissan electric car.

What's more, this electric car is easier than ever to use. Several apps like ChargeHub let you find charging stations before you even start your trip. And with many Nissan dealerships, you even get access to fast charging stations for free so you can enjoy a little mid-trip energy boost.

A Connected City Car

As an electric vehicle, the Nissan Leaf offers plenty of exclusive perks such as NissanConnect EV services. These allow you to connect to your car and access its information from your phone or compatible watch.

That's right! In addition to the usual mobile devices, you can also use an Apple Watch and Android Wear to receive notifications, control your vehicle and much more.

The apps make it possible to receive plenty of information and to enjoy several features, such as:

  • Real-time charging status and total range
  • Cabin temperature
  • Remote locking and unlocking
  • Roadside assistance
  • And much more!

It goes without saying that technology also makes an appearance on board, including an 8-inch multimedia display. Compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the infotainment system even includes a navigation system on most versions. You will love being able to send hands-free text messages, not to mention all of its other features.

Price of the 2022 Electric Nissan Leaf

The Nissan Leaf was designed first and foremost to democratize the electric car and to make it accessible for all. That's why the new 2022 Leaf is dropping its price drastically: it costs $6,800 less than the previous year! This is without forgetting the additional savings due to government incentives, since the Leaf is eligible for both.
