Nissan’s electrification plan: 10 years

Nissan’s electrification plan: 10 years
Nissan’s electrification plan: 10 years – 23 new electric Nissan vehicles. With its 2030 Ambition plan, Nissan promises an elaborate range of electric vehicles.

Very ambitious and innovative, Nissan’s electrification plan –named the 2030 Ambition plan- is a very promising effort towards a healthier and more environmentally friendly future.  In fact, the Japanese manufacturer is planning on launching no less than 23 vehicles with electric motors between now and 2030, 8 of which are hybrids and due in the next 5 years.  Already on Montreal roads since 2010, the Nissan Leaf electric car is one of the first electric vehicles to have stolen the hearts of buyers everywhere.

Obviously, it is she, the little Leaf, who has paved the way to an electrified future, and if we look at the Japanese manufacturer’s concept cars, this future will not only be cleaner, it will also be more elegant.  This said, it is true that production models do not exactly resemble concept vehicles.  However, with the arrival of electric vehicles which require much less space in terms of mechanics, it is more likely that they will be closer to these; and that is excellent news.

This year, Nissan graces us with a brand new 100% electric model, the Nissan Ariya SUV, which can already be pre-ordered at your Nissan Spinelli dealer in the West Island of Montreal, close to Laval.  Designers are working overtime to launch the IMs and the Xmotion very soon, the first of which is an electric Nissan car with a very avant-garde design. This concept car was presented during the 2019 North American International Auto Show.  Here are some of its specs:

The Nissan Ariya electric car specs:

  • Two electric motors, one in the front and one at the rear;
  • A 115 kWh quick charge battery;
  • 483 horsepower;
  • A 590 lb-ft. maximum torque;
  • 612 kilometer autonomy.

When it comes to the Nissan Xmotion, it is an incredibly fascinating electric SUV with three rows of seats, magnificent with its high silhouette, chiseled lines and U-shaped flanks, its massive radiator grill and boomerang shaped ultra-thin headlights that give it a stunning and sporty look.  With its rear-hinged doors, this Nissan electric vehicle welcomes us in a futuristic interior worthy of a Luc Besson movie, where red dominates the extremely spacious interior.

The electric Nissan TeRRA vehicle

Also equipped with rear-hinged doors, the Nissan Terra electric SUV’s silhouette undoubtedly makes us think of the late Juke, another concept vehicle.  What is most surprising about the Terra is certainly its interior.   Far from conventional layouts and finishes, the Terra interior includes several different types of real wood in blond hues and tainted acrylics, for a feeling of warmth surrounded by the colors of nature.

Seats are ultra-modern and positioned diagonally, which only serves to accentuate the futuristic style.  Moreover, the 3 passengers’ seats (one in the front and two at the back) can be completely folded down, giving you enough space to carry large objects such as a bicycle or a piece of furniture, for example.

Keeping in line with the 2030 Ambition plan, and also to ensure its electrification, the Japanese manufacturer is also planning on developing a solid battery that will not only be less expensive to produce, but that will also be more efficient than the lithium-ion batteries with liquid electrolyte that we are currently using.  This solid battery, manufactured by Nissan, will be produced in great quantity from now to 2028 and thanks to this technology, we can count on costs being significantly lower.

When it comes to Yokohama, who, amongst other things, produces engines, the plan goes as follows: 50% of global sales for new vehicles will be electric, with 75% in Europe, 55% in Japan, 40% in China and the US.

The Nissan – Renault – Mitsubishi alliance

With this great effort towards a cleaner future, the Nissan, Renault and Mitsubishi alliance plans on having 90% of new electric models built on five common platforms.  They are working together in order to reduce all battery production costs, for up to 50% by 2026 and 65% by 2028.
